    Who Will You Be?

    As we wrap up an entire DECADE, it’s a great opportunity to reflect and begin to create an even more powerful future.

    What kind of person do you want to be in 2020 and beyond? The one who says tomorrow….., next month……., or next year?

    Or the one who takes action now?

    The kind who allows fear to run the show? Or the kind that pushes through no matter how scared they are? The person who downplays your dreams? Or the person who goes after them? The one who lives an extraordinary life? Or the one who just dreams about it? The kind that says I can’t? Or the kind that knows they can do anything?

    You are so incredibly powerful when you choose to commit, take action, and become resourceful.

    If someone would’ve told me 10 years ago that at almost 50 years old I would be in the best shape of my life, competed in over 200 triathlons and run a successful coaching company I wouldn’t have believed them in the times of struggle. I simply chose to figure it out.

    Now I believe everything is possible and I have set some pretty big intentions for 2020. I Would love for you to share… Who do you want to evolve into in this new decade?

    When you aren’t where you want to be in any area of life whether it’s your body and healthy, your relationships, or even you financial/work life, it’s for one reason…

    Your VALUES are misaligned with your ACTIONS.

    Let’s say you want to lose weight. Weight loss becomes your value. But you keep hitting the drive thru before work when you’re rushed.

    You keep saying “on Monday” you’ll get your workouts going. You got that Frappuccino “just one more time” for your afternoon pick-me-up.

    Those are all simply examples of your actions…that are clearly misaligned with the value of losing weight.

    Examples of aligned actions would be: Fasting in the morning or preparing a healthy real food breakfast or green smoothie at home. Going out for that swim, bike run or gym session TODAY. Having a hot tea with Perfect Aminos instead of the Frappuccino.

    It’s truly each and every choice you make daily that gets you where you are right now OR where you want to be.

    It’s in each decision that your future is being created.

    Woah. That’s big and it’s the absolute truth.

    So, what’s your VALUE? And can you see the misalignment or alignment of your daily actions to that value?

    6 Steps to Achieving Anything

    One of the things I am most passionate about is helping people achieve things they thought were previously impossible.

    The amazing thing about working with people in triathlon, fitness and health is that once they start to achieve those “impossible” feats, it trickles over into other areas of life. Someone who crosses the finish line at a triathlon or Ironman, loses 50 pounds or conquers new feats of strength for the first time suddenly gets a promotion at work, gains the confidence to quit their job and start that business they’ve been dreaming about, or even leave a relationship that made them unhappy and wasn’t serving them.

    This is true for myself and many many of my athletes experience the same thing and share this with me.

    It’s truly incredible to witness these total life transformations over and over again. And I believe it comes down to following these 6 steps:

    1. Identify your impossible goal. What’s that thing you’ve been dreaming about but haven’t committed to or verbalized?

    2. Commit to a deadline. Write it down. Make it non-negotiable. Look at the goal and deadline every day.

    3. Reverse engineer the steps it’s going to take to achieve that goal. Ask for support from a friend or coach if you’re not sure.

    4. Ask yourself “what will it cost me to achieve this goal?” Will it cost money, time, or giving up things you enjoy like television? Make sure you’re willing to commit to the cost no matter what. Also ask what will it cost me if I do not do this????

    5. Ask yourself “who do I have to become to make this happen? Do you need to become a morning person, more independent, or figure out a way to eliminate excuses from your vocabulary?

    You MUST check in on yourself every day to ensure you are becoming who you need to achieve the goal.

    6. Find someone who believes in you and get them to hold you accountable. Very few people achieve goals entirely on their own. Having a coach to support you is one of the BEST things you can do. They will give you honest feedback, help identify your blind spots, and help you strategize when you feel like your plan isn’t working.

    What Do You Dream About?

    It occurred to me recently that way too many people get to the end of their lives and never live out their dreams.

    Whether it’s fear, obligation, resources or something else holding them back, it makes me sad.

    We all have dreams. Every human. Some of mine are:
    • Write a book people want to read and would find helpful
    • Be of service and give back in bigger ways
    • Be in a deeply loving relationship, again
    • Host a Hawaii Triathlon Camp
    • Surf trip to the Dominican Republic

    I think maybe one reason so many people don’t ever tap into their dreams is because they don’t share them.

    So today, I want to know…
    what do you dream about? It can be anything. Your dream can even stay just between us if you’d like. And most importantly, when are you going to start living out that dream?

    Let’s keep each other accountable to dreaming bigger and living those dreams more, ok?

    Well, that’s what they say about the holiday season anyway. 😉

    It’s the season of family, sharing, connecting to what matters… But it’s also the season of FOOD. It’s everywhere all of the time. Holiday parties, work luncheons, family dinners. And often we think to ourselves something along the lines of, “well, if I don’t indulge, this only happens once and year, so I’ll miss out.”

    So, I wanted to remind you that it’s simply not true. weeks/

    You’re living in the abundant western world where any food truly is available to you at any time. Sometimes this scarcity mindset compels us to overindulge and step into the New Year in a far worse position than we were in just 2 weeks or months ago.

    Whether you have health and fitness resolutions for the New Year or not, you can absolutely step into January 1, 2020 not only a healthier version of you if you adopt the abundance mindset and don’t overdo it this season, but you can also strengthen your commitment muscle… This is the muscle that helps you choose what’s most aligned with your body, health and fitness goals.

    Present and Future

    In my 23 years in the triathlon, health and fitness industry, it’s not unusual for me to see people stay in contemplation for YEARS before taking action on their goals.

    It seems like there’s always next Monday or next month or after my birthday or next year.

    But the truth is that your time on this earth is finite.

    If you’re out of shape and less than optimally healthy because you “don’t have time” or haven’t made your health a priority, think about what you’re missing out on…

    • The confidence to be 100% you, wear what you want to wear, own a room, and love what you see in the mirror.
    • The level of fitness required to enjoy life’s adventures with ease,
    • The simple knowing that you’re living an extraordinary, vibrant life that will last longer and will be more fulfilling for both you and your family.

    That list could go on, of course. And there will never be any time like the present to get started.

    It can be as simple as:

    • Going for a walk rather than watching that TV show.
    • Choosing water at the moment you catch yourself reaching for a soda
    • Ordering the protein and vegetables at dinner tonight over the normal burger and fries.

    Your success or struggle is literally the result of each choice we make.

    This blog post contains content that will generate the happiest, most confident, most vibrant, most successful version of YOU should you choose to follow these instructions… (read to the end to receive a little guidance)

    1. Get crazy clear on your goals – what do you want in life right now that you don’t currently have?
    2. Create a plan – what do you need to do to bring your goals into reality?
    3. Declare it as truth – sharing goals publicly is a great way to ensure you do what it takes to achieve them.
    4. Get support and accountability – we all need someone by our side to keep us focused and push us back on track when we fall off.
    5. Take action every single day – implementation is the only way to get results.
    6. Celebrate the wins – keep yourself focused on what you ARE accomplishing to stay motivated instead of focusing on where you feel you’re lacking.

    These are literally the steps to creating anything you want for your life.

    We build things up into being so much more complicated than they ever need to be.

    Those who’ve achieved great things and seemingly impossible goals have done it by advancing one step at a time… and you can too.

    So, what will your choice be? Will you follow these instructions to your happiest, most confident, most vibrant, most successful version of YOU?

    Or will you deny or delay this amazing thing that you SO deserve?

    Something Bigger

    I know I’ve been going on and on about my Ultimate Tri camp or bragging about all the amazing accomplishments of my Rockstar Triathletes, but this is bigger because it’s not about me or Full Circle Coaching. This is about abused and neglected children being able to find a safe home in the USA and how there is a solution.  And just because you are reading this you are actually helping. Keep reading to find out how.
    In June 2020, I have a Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) of riding my bike with 3 team mates across the United States to raise awareness to this solvable problem. It’s called Race Across America or RAAM. and

    I’m going to donate $10 from every athlete I coach every month January to June for this cause “4Cyclists4KIDS Race Across America” http://www.4kids.us/amazingrace2020

    I have been looking for a cause to align with. One that fills my heart and gives me more reason to be of service and have a purpose. I learned about 4Kids from Nick Vajucic at a talk he gave about not letting physical limitations stop you. If you don’t know him, he is an absolutely amazing human being – no arms or legs – married with 4 kids of his own and he helps 35 or more children through the 4 kids organization. He surfs, sky dives, swims and sweeps the floor – all with help but that’s the point! Help.

    So, I’ve decided to help too.  So thanks for being a part of my BHAG for 2020. If you are interested in helping me out in other ways besides just being one of my athletes, there are lots;

  • Are You Having Fun?

    Are You Having Fun?

    If not, then what’s the point?

    Are you competitive to the point that you just aren’t having fun anymore?

    Do you train alone and miss out on the friendship, camaraderie and fun of training with others?

    Are you so busy comparing yourself to others that you are missing out on the journey?

    Gabby Bernstein’s new book Super Attractor was a gentle reminder to me that “it’s good to feel good.”

    Triathlon makes me feel good. It shifts me from any negative feelings to positive ones in the moments I’m training and racing because there is no time to think about anything else when you are in the moment.

    Being around other athletes training and racing is part of the fun. Every athlete I coach actually performs better in this environment.
    Yes, solo training is necessary too but the energy of others carries you much further.

    We all benefit from celebrating the successes and supporting each other in the struggles to accomplish the big goals we set for ourselves. It isn’t always easy so this is when it’s important to remember “its good to feel good” and have fun!

    I promise we will have a ton of fun training but at the same time making it fun.

    There Are No Rules

    I use this saying a lot. And I believe it. I truly believe each one of us has to figure out personally what works us as individuals. We are different, have different needs within our training, racing, relationships, lifestyle and of course nutrition. Have you noticed how many diet fads and trends are currently circulating the market?

    And ask any person who is ALL IN with one of these ways of eating, and their philosophy behind eating that way is nothing short of dogmatic.

    And I’m sorry, but that is NOT how nutrition should ever be.

    Because there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to eating healthy.

    Of course, common sense tells you broccoli is healthier than potato chips…that’s not what I’m talking about.

    I’m talking specifically about the dogma of nutrition.

    • Keto is the ONLY way.
    • Intermittent fasting is THE way to lose fat.
    • Count macros or be overweight forever!

    These are the kinds of philosophies that are circulating, so I wanted to acknowledge the ridiculousness of it all.

    If you focus on eating lean proteins, some good fats, plenty of vegetables, and drink lots of water…and you don’t overdo it on portions, you’re good.

    Seriously…it can be that simple.

    There are plenty of countries around the worlds that practice simple diets without the dogma, and because of what’s available to them in that culture, it just works.

    People are lean effortlessly.

    At the end of the day, the amount of choice we have when it comes to food is overwhelming.

    My best advice? Keep it simple. Focus on what I shared above, and watch your body lose fat effortlessly.
