  • Virtual Training Helped Him Smash His Goals – Rockstar Joseph Brittain

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

    Rockstar Triathlete: Joseph Brittain

    Coaches Notes:

Joseph’s transformation from a newcomer to a standout performer with Full Circle Coaching is a testament to his grit and determination.  Our journey began at the Ride on Ryan Sprint Tri in Savannah in 2023, where he enrolled in my 8-week Beginner Tri program. His hard work paid off when he secured a podium finish in his first Olympic Distance Tri.

Joseph’s achievements are not just a result of his physical training, but also his active participation in the coaching process.  He consistently followed the plan, Completed the workouts, and took the necessary rest during recovery weeks. His dedication was further evident in his regular attendance at our group calls, where he actively asked questions and sought ways to push his limits. He submitted videos so we could work on his technique, and he performed his testing so no junk miles were trained. Every workout had a purpose, and the results speak for themselves.

Way to go, Joseph. You are a true Rockstar Triathlete! Thanks so much for choosing Full Circle Coaching to guide you on the journey. I can’t wait to see what’s next for you!

    Age: 30

    Profession: Civil Engineer

Why did you choose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I met Coach Erinne at the Ride of Ryan Sprint Triathlon in Savannah in May 2023. I had done a couple of sprint races but knew that I wanted to start doing longer races and to be prepared to perform my best at those races.

What is your “A” race for this season?
Gulf Coast 70.3 last week. I am about to put together a race plan for the second half of 2024.

    What are your BIG goals?
My BIG goals for 2024 were to run my first marathon and half-ironman. Both went well, and I outperformed my initial expectations. I will run the Classic City Marathon (3 hrs 25 mins) in January 2024 and the Gulf Coast 70.3 (5 hrs 8 mins) in May 2024. I have some potential new goals in mind, but I am still letting them marinate in my brain.

What were some of your most significant improvements in performance for each of the following? Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health. Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved.

    Swim:
My CSS improved from 1:34/100yds (May 2023) to 1:22/100yds (November 2023)(PR).

Bike: In my first Olympic race in July 2023, I averaged 21.0 mph. In my first half-ironman in May 2024, I averaged 21.3 mph. I recently got a power meter, so racing and training by power have helped a lot.

Run: 1-mile run test improved from 6:03 (May 2023) to 5:42 (February 2024)

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the most significant difference in your journey
    (1) Swim drills.
My swimming technique has definitely improved. I had previously assumed that my fitness level was my biggest limiter, and I never did drills at the pool. I would swim long freestyle sets.
    (2) Group Training / Accountability. I can push myself harder during group training. I used to only do solo bike rides, but I have gotten to really enjoy group rides. Also, I had my fastest one-mile run test at the Ultimate Tri Camp. Every other run test I had done solo.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?
I am excited about continuing to connect with people with similar goals or taking on similar challenges. I’m also enthusiastic about continuing to progress in my fitness journey and hopefully continuing to be surprised by what I can accomplish.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?
Coach Erinne listened to my goals, gave me challenging workouts, and helped me dial in my nutrition plan for the race. Knowing that I was prepared on race day gave me a lot of confidence.

  • Even Coaches Can Benefit from UTC! – Heather’s Rockstar Story

    [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

    Rockstar Triathlete: Heather Shrouds

Coaches Notes: Heather reached out in January, excited to be able to get such a great discount on Ultimate Tri Camp as a USAT certified USAT Coach, earn her CEUs, AND learn the “behind the scenes ” about how I coach my athletes and the Full Circle Coaching Methodology.

I love being able to support USA Triathlon coaches in the application of their knowledge.

There are many different coaching styles, but with my 27 years of experience coaching thousands of triathletes and hosting over 20 triathlon camps, I believe that including training in more than just swimming, biking, and running is imperative to keeping a triathlete doing the sport they love for a lifetime.

At Camp, Heather saw firsthand how to coach the campers on the importance of technique in the swim, bike and running can prevent injuries from overusing the repetitive motion of a triathlon with the use of video analysis and metabolic field testing. Learning breath work, Kihara stretching, Eldoa spine strength, foot strength, and so much more can impact her triathlon performance and help her coach the athletes she is coaching.

Thanks, Heather, for coming in with an open mind and participating fully at Ultimate Tri Camp. You have so many new tools to implement into your coaching practice! You are a true Rockstar Coach/ and Camper!

    Age: 48

Profession: Personal Trainer and Triathlon Coach

Why did you choose Ultimate Tri Camp for help in your triathlon journey?
I was at this triathlon camp to earn my CECs for my USAT Certification and improve my form in my swim and run. I knew something was off, but I was still determining what to expect. This was my first triathlon camp ever!

Please share your BIG goals and how Ultimate Tri Camp supported you:
My big goals are to swim 750m under 15 minutes, bike 20+mph, and run a 20-minute 5k
I started my weight loss journey in the fall of 2009. I have lost 100 lbs so far. I fell in love with Triathlon after my first swim, even though I was terrified of the open water. Triathlon and Duathlon Worlds and I have qualified for and competed in Age Group Nationals.

Tell me about your successes so far:

Swim – being more efficient and converting to breathing every 2 strokes instead of 3
Bike – getting my love back for riding outside.  I had been riding on the trainer a lot because of life schedule.   Riding in Clermont during Ultimate Tri Camp was beautiful, and riding in traffic was challenging, but I overcame my fear with the group’s safety.
Run – seeing my form on video during the video analysis and the corrections we made.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance at Ultimate Tri Camp?
I learned even more about my gut health. I love the ELDOA, meditation, and yoga. Honestly, it all was excellent.
    1) Getting my love back for riding outside
    2) Recovery strategies
    3) The Magnesium cream and Perfect Aminos are a game changer

What was your favorite part of Ultimate Tri Camp?
The camaraderie and the edge of competing with everyone—all of it, honestly. If I had to pick the ELDOAs, I have never done them before, but they’re a game changer for sure.

Are you coming back next year?
    Yes, I plan on it!

  • Are You Making This Mistake?

    Are You Making This Mistake?

I used to have a friend who was always too tired to do something; Or too busy. or too broke.

She always relied on one of those “reasons” for why she couldn’t achieve something she said she wanted.

And at some point, I got tired of trying to motivate and encourage her.

I still liked her and cared for her but, I realized she was choosing to impose nonsense limitations on herself because she wanted to and because it felt familiar, or because… well, who knows why? But she was clearly making the choice to hold herself back based on false narratives she kept telling herself.

When I realized that, I gave up.

See, I have learned that people are rarely too tired, busy or broke to do what they want – whether it’s something minor like seeing a movie, or something major like doing a triathlon or getting healthy.

Rather, we tell ourselves these familiar stories so we don’t have to face what’s really holding us back.

Usually, that’s a fear of some kind.

A fear of failure, a fear of embarrassment, a fear of how a new experience might cause us discomfort.

And you know what? That’s fine. Nobody likes to fail or be embarrassed, and some people only want the comfort of familiar experiences, and aren’t ready to stretch.

But at least understand your motivations. Probe your own mindset enough to recognize the limiting self-beliefs you’ve adopted and find ways to move beyond them.

If what you want is important enough, you’ll make it happen. If it’s not, just say so. Accept where you are, and let go!

But, getting into a good feeling place is a key important first step.

  • Mastering The Miami Marathon: Tips For Insider Success

The Race Is Sunday, Are You Really Ready?

Tips + a video walk through to feel confident and calm before race day

Race week can feel like a sprint and a marathon all at once. You want to be prepared… but you also want to relax.
That tension wanting to be ready but not wanting to overthink it is totally normal.

In fact, I just posted a video walking through key race-week preparation on YouTube practical, simple, and focused on feeling calm, confident, and ready for the big day. (Watch it below or click through to the full video on YouTube.)

Click here to watch: 9 Tips for Miami Marathon Race Week

#1. Rest Is Not Optional, It’s Strategic

I know you are concerned about losing fitness when you take rest days or easy days, but this is so untrue.

When you rest, you get stronger and faster because your body can recover, rebuild and assimilate all the training stress you have been applying to it over the last few weeks.

This doesn’t mean sitting on the couch and eating ice cream.

An easy week leading to the race means reduced overall volume and a few well-placed ORPS (Over Race Pace Sprints). See a sample week at the bottom of this blog.

#2. Eat for Success before, during, and after the race

Can you imagine driving your car without putting gas in it? How far do you think it would go? How fast?

Not very! That is my point.

Plan your pre-post and during the race nutrition NOW.

This one factor can throw all your hard work down the drain.

You can be the fastest, strongest runner out there, but if you don’t fuel up well, your body cannot deliver the performance you desire.

Why risk it? If you want some suggestions on pre-race meals, check out my blog, Top 3 Tried and True Pre-Race Breakfasts. This is highly individualized so stick to what you have used in training for your race and adjust slightly for higher performance on race day.

Always choose real food while not on the race course. As a healthful tip, too much sports nutrition is not healthy!

    #3. Stretch

With reduced activity this week, you may be feeling a little tight. Break out the foam roller and get in the sauna and or hot tub and stretch your whole body a few times after your easy runs this week.
#4. Write out a Race Plan and stick to it

A race plan is something I recommend, so you have a map to follow to guarantee success.

Write out everything you will do from Saturday morning when you wake up to Sunday after completing the race, including your race day goals.

    This includes:

    • Eating meals that will support your race; complex carbohydrates, quality protein, and good fats.
    • What sports nutrition will you use during the race, and when to eat it
    • Warm-up training routine
    • Your goals for the race itself
    • Heart rate and pacing plans during the race and

Your recovery details post-race- (What’s your reward??)

This can be as detailed or simple as you like. The important thing is to write out your goals in a positive light.

Avoid statements like, “I hope I don’t quit.”

Instead, write, “I will run at my goal race pace from aid station to aid station,” or “I will hold 8:15 minute miles for my last 3 miles.”

You may also want to include any concerns about the race and write out your solutions to them in case they occur.

For example, if you are concerned about how to pace the bridges in the race. Pace yourself more gradually as you start the climb, so you have energy at the top of the bridge to run down with momentum and good form.

Or another example would be if you are worried about pacing yourself for your goal time, use an app that can create a pace chart to follow to help keep you following your plan toward your goal.

Then, I would include goal finishing times based on solid training paces and heart rates you know you can achieve, so you aren’t guessing your finishing time. Then announce it to your friends and on social media!

    #5. Sleep

I know, you are superhuman and can get by on 5 hours of sleep a night; Wrong!!!

    You are only fooling yourself.

Yes, you can do this a few days a week, but if you are consistently sleeping 5 hours or less a night, you are being less productive and sacrificing a good performance from your body and brain; the research is there.

I’m a big believer in putting science to the test. Get eight-plus hours of sleep for five nights in a row, and I guarantee you will feel superhuman even without caffeine!

#6. Get Your Race Packet Early

Pick up your packet early. Wear your compression socks, and browse the expo as you sip some organic coconut water. Then, get off your feet. Avoid the chaos.

    #7. Mantras

Half and full marathons are long distances, and you can lose focus easily during the race.

Pick a few mantras to keep you present “in the moment” and focus on your breathing.

Some of my favorite mantras are:

    “Fast Arms, Fast Feet”
    “Quick Light Feet”
    “I Got This”
    “Right, Left, Right, Left”
    “Fall Forward”
#8. Hit the port-o-potties before you start

There are lines of people for the bathrooms along the race course; avoid the wait by emptying your bowels before the race starts.

#9. Start with a Disposable Water bottle

So you can skip the lines at the first three aid stations. Add a pinch of natural sea salt or your favorite electrolytes. You can get to the aide stations farther down as it gets less crowded.

    #10. Smile

Have fun and enjoy every second of this opportunity to race! Cheer your fellow runners, and be grateful for your awesome, strong, and successful body.

    Now, have an awesome race!

I am wishing you all your best race 🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻🏃🏻

    Namaste,
    Coach Erinne

BONUS: Sample Week Leading up to Race Day

    Monday
Sleep in, stretch using a foam roller and write out your race plan; Put your race plan for the weekend and send it to your coach for feedback, and get a massage.

    Tuesday
Start with a dynamic warm-up, an easy 20-40 minute run at your aerobic threshold (AE) (180 – age = heart rate average for this run). In other words very easy! Include a few 4 x 1 min ORPS (over race pace sprints) slightly above your goal race pace. If you are just racing to finish, keep it steady and include a few pick-ups in intensity. Finish with a total body stretch and core routine specific to running.

    Wednesday
Easy 45-minute swim or bike followed by total body foam roll and stretch. Visualize your entire race exactly as you want it to go and use all your senses and emotion of how it will feel to be out there running and crossing the finish line with your goal time.

    Thursday
    Similar to Tuesday

    Friday
Day off, mental and physical prep; pick up your packet today.
    Saturday

Run race warm up 15-20 min, with 2-3 x 1 min ORPS. Stretch, compress and rest. Follow your nutrition plan for the day, and prepare for temperatures accordingly with layers.

    Sunday
Race Day, make it a great day.
Follow your plan, and don’t forget to SMILE and Enjoy!

  • Do you “Monday” Your Goals?

    Do you “Monday” Your Goals?

In the history of procrastination, there’s no better time than Monday.

    • “I promise, Coach, I’ll see you starting on Monday.”
    • “My diet starts Monday – after one last weekend of fun.”

    Sound familiar?

Maybe this explains why more people hit the gym or the running trails on Monday, after a weekend of lying around and overindulging.

But whether you use the Monday excuse or tell some other lie to yourself, it’s all the same. When you procrastinate working on your goals, it means you’re not really ready to do the work.

Because when you are? You go into immediate action.

    Monday’s a liar.

Trust yourself. Begin your work. No matter what day it is.

It just so happens to be Monday! So today is the day to take action!

Set up a call with me to see how I can help you with your triathlon and health and wellness goals!

From Grill Master to Triathlon Champion: 109 Burger Joint Owner Hooked After Jumping In The Pool

    COACH’S NOTES:

As a complete new comer to triathlon, Jose had the desire and followed the Full Circle Coaching Couch2-Tri Program to the letter to achieve amazing results.

He barely missed a single training session in the 8 week beginner program and implemented all the training suggestions to cross the finish line strong after some tough windy wavy conditions in the Key West Triathlon.

I am so proud to welcome him to the Triathlon Tribe and love his enthusiasm to tackle some serious new triathlon goals!

Way to go Jose!  Thanks for being an inspiration to those people that may be a little unsure in taking on the goal of a triathlon and showing how well this program works.

    ABOUT THE ATHLETE

    Age:

    24 years young

    Profession:

    Chef/Restaurant Owner/Full-time student

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?

After doing research, I saw that FC had a great staff and workout plans for its athletes. I did a skype call with Erinne  and loved her energy and passion. She invited me to a free one week trial and I was hooked!

What is your “A” race for this season?

Escape to Miami in September will be my first international distance race! But I just completed my first triathlon ever after graduating from Full Circle Coaching Couch to Tri Program

    Please share your BIG goals:

Like every triathlete my BIG goal is to finish an Ironman one day. Also, to become better faster and stronger with every race I participate in!

Tell me about your successes so far:

I completed the Coach-to-Tri program with Full Circle and was able to run my first triathlon! I completed the sprint at Tri-Key West. It was a tough race with some unexpected challenges but it was amazing! Loved every part of it. My training prepared me well enough to feel confident in my abilities. Cannot wait for all the races to come!

What were some of your biggest improvements in performance in Swim, Bike, Run, and Nutrition/Health?

    • Swim: when I started with FC I couldn’t swim across the pool. After the program I not only learned to swim correctly but I was able to conquer a very tough, rough windy swim at TriKW.
    • Bike: My speed and efficiency on the bike was miles better after the training.
    • Run: When I started with FC I couldn’t run a mile. Now I can run an 8-min mile and was able to complete a 5k!

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

    1. Having a very supportive coaching staff that knows exactly what I need to become better and to reach my goals. They are great mentors that will always push me to get to the next level.
    2. Having a great team around me that can always be counted on. Whether good or bad I know the FC tribe will be there to help.
    3. Building the self-confidence to believe in myself. Setting achievable goals that will help me grow and become better, not only in triathlon but life in general.

What excites you the most about being involved in triathlon?

I love being part of something that is so much fun and also just betters life. Since I started training for triathlon I have been feeling better in all aspects of my life. It is also exciting taking part in one of greatest physical challenges that we can partake as humans. The sense of achievement from completing a triathlon  is like no other!

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?

Jump off the fence and into the pool! The hardest part about this whole process was starting. Once you’re in it you will get hooked!

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I met Erinne at my 1st pre-race clinic for the May 2017 Mack Cycle Tri-Miami. I gained some valuable tips from her and knew she was passionate and knowledgeable about the sport.

Last year, my dear friend, Hunter Tully,  joined FCC and I was able to see him grow in the sport and hear all about the FCC approach. Earlier this year Hunter approached me about joining a team that he was putting together to race in the RAAM (Ride Across America) in June 2020. Erinne is also a part of that team. At one of our RAAM team meetings I was able to share with her my goals and what I had been doing with a part time coach. She was confident that she could help and I gave it a shot. In 3 months she helped me reach my 1st goal. I’m so glad that I made the decision to be a part of her team!

What is your “A” race for this season?
    Key West Olympic

    Please share your BIG goals:
50 mile Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim run in the Grand Canyon, Gulf Coast 70.3 PR and Podium, RAAM in 8 days (3,000+ miles 125,000 gain), and complete full Ironman.

Tell me about your successes so far:
I started doing triathlons in 2017. I am a proud finisher of 3 Half Ironman distance races with a PR of 5:33. I have done multiple sprint, international/Olympic distances since 2017 and just finished 1st in my age group in Key West.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved:
    Swim – Erinne is correcting my form and in 3 months I’ve gotten almost 20 seconds faster per 100 yards;
    Bike – proper bike fit and coaching has allowed me to sustain high power for much longer periods;
Run – structured workouts that have focused my training to run faster than ever.
    Nutrition – work in progress!

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:
    1. Setting specific goals within the race (race plan).
    2. Workouts designed to maximize potential and simulate race day efforts.
    3. Having someone to call or text that is willing and able to answer my every question. Yes even the silly and “you should know better” ones!

  • Time-saving strategies to prioritize yourself

    Time-saving strategies to prioritize yourself

Managing your time is all about expressing your priorities.

So, when you habitually say things like, “I don’t have time to: exercise, stretch, strength train, eat smart, etc.” then you’re essentially saying this:

My health and happiness are not priorities.

    Please, stop saying that!

Here are a few simple time-management tools to prioritize yourself in your own life. Think about how you can apply them to use YOUR time effectively.

    • Just say no. Crazy concept, right? You don’t have to do everything someone asks. You don’t have to take on every responsibility. “No” is a complete sentence.
    • What do flight attendants always say? “Please secure your own oxygen mask before helping someone else.” That’s a good lesson on the ground too. If you can’t take care of yourself, you’re not going to be any good to another person.
    • Wake up 30 minutes early. Depending on your family and work schedules, this slight adjustment could start a chain reaction of time savings. Think of what you could do before anyone else wakes up and the daily rush starts.
    • Limit screen time. We used to say watch less TV, but now we should include Internet and video games, too. I’m not saying you shouldn’t enjoy them. But if you’re searching for time to exercise, you can start right here by cutting an hour a day three days a week.
    • Conduct walking meetings and lunches. If your desk-bound for calls and Zoom meetings, try to arrange just a couple a week while out for a walk. Similarly, if there’s an individual you need, then schedule a time to walk together or while on the phone. It’s fun, social, and gets good ideas flowing. (And, yes, it saves time!)
    • Seize the time you save on commuting. More people are working from home nowadays, and that means tons of time back in your column since you don’t have to commute every day.

Which of these are you going to try? Do you have any time-saving best practices?

Rockstar Triathlete Shaves 20 Minutes Off Sprint Race Time

    Coach’s Notes

When Steve recommitted to training with me, he was really ready to make some changes.

His commitment to really learning what was holding him back and then applying the tools I gave him has been amazing to watch.

Taking 20 minutes off his sprint race time by showing up to classes and Swim Essentials and 25 pounds lighter after a gut healing protocol and holistic nutrition program. He is now ready to start ramping it up for longer distance triathlon.

    Super proud of you Steve.
We will continue to make improvements as long as you choose to!

    Age: 55

    Profession:
    Culinary Instructor

Why you chose FCC to help you on your triathlon/health and wellness journey?
I heard from a friend that Erinne was one of the best coaches in Miami so I always go with the best.

What is your “A” race for this season?
    70.3 Puerto Rico

    Please share your BIG goals:
Training with FC has given me such confidence in the sport that I love even though I have just started doing them in the last few years.

Tell me about your successes so far:
I started training again with Erinne this February and I have stayed consistent. From my sprint race in May to the sprint race in August, I have taken 20 minutes off my time total time. In one month from the Trilogy in July to Trilogy 3 in August, I cut 6 minutes off my time!

I have also been doing Erinne’s nutrition coaching since mid July and have Lost 25 pounds.

What were some of your biggest Improvements in performance for the each of the following? Swim: Bike: Run: Nutrition/Health: Please include any Personal Records and Goals achieved:

I have improved on every level of my training, taking minutes off each discipline, swim, bike and run and of course, pounds. I am still working on my nutrition and will be at my ideal weight soon as the pounds keep coming off.

Name 2 or 3 things that have made the biggest difference in your journey:

    1. With nutrition, Erinne’s gut healing guidance has made a huge impact on how I feel so much better. Also, knowing what foods to eat for my metabolic type.
    2. Of course having such great coaching, teaching and correcting my form.
    3. The support of the entire FC tribe because it is a lot easier to get goals accomplished as a team than as an individual.

What excites you the most about involved in triathlon?
Every triathlon gets me excited to see what I can do mentally and physically and puts me in a better place to improve myself and motivate the people that I work with.

What would you say to another person who was on the fence about joining our training program?

Just do it. Stop making excuses. Having a great coach and awesome teammates has elevated my skills to achieve things I thought I never could do.

  • 10 Simple Steps to Regain Control

10 Simple Steps to Regain Control

If you’ve been feeling like things are beyond your control for, oh, say, the last year or so, I completely get it and you are NOT alone.

In fact, I’m pretty sure everybody would understand that because, guess what? A lot of stuff really has been beyond our control, even basic matters relating to our health.

We’ve had to take extra precautions every day to stay safe, limit our interactions and activities and keep our sanity.

Now, though? Things are looking up, and it’s time to take back your health. Here are a few suggestions about how to do that.

    1. Believe in yourself and your ability to get healthy.
    2. Take consistent action in mind and body every day. (progress not perfection)
    3. Be grateful for your health and the health of your loved ones.
    4. Exercise every day. If you’ve been getting by with walks and at-home workouts, maybe it’s time to get back to the gym or studio. For that matter, if you’ve been doing nothing physical all year, then it’s definitely time to get back in shape.
    5. Realize that healthy living (exercise, eating right, etc.) keeps you strong and protects you from illness.
    6. Get help – look for resources to help guide you or hire a coach!
    7. Take your real, quality made from food supplements.
    8. Eat right for your metabolic type.
    9. Sleep 7-8 hours every night.
    10. Be kind to yourself and to others..

We made it through the last year.

Now, let’s make the next one really worth it!
