Running More is NOT Better!
Many runners believe that the only way to get better running is to run more, run faster, run harder but this is simply not true.
Especially when you are doing those exact things and the only result is injury and fatigue. Something is missing, usually the issue is a lack of mobility, stability and strength in the body.
If you are limited in your range of motion in key areas of your body used for running, other muscles and joints are being over worked and used incorrectly to keep you running.
Without core stability in a static position how can you expect your body to be able to stabilize in a dynamic movement like running, where you are having to continually balance on one leg for split seconds and heavy load.
This is when injury occurs.
Finally it will be much more difficult to gain speed in running without dynamic stability. One of my favorite analogies is that “You Cannot Fire a Cannon from a Canoe!”
A sport specific strength program is imperative to gaining strength and speed in your running and definitely one of the core principles at Full Circle Coaching.
